10 questions to Michaela

Advice you’d give your younger self

Keep doing what you're doing... maybe don't guinea pig that jump in Mammoth Mountain that you broke your back on.

Your hidden talent

They’re so hidden I don’t even know them.

What you wanted to be when you grew up

To never grow up, so far so good!

Other hobbies and interests

I enjoy constantly being on the move, travelling and exploring new places! I love living the van life, being in nature, camping, surfing, motorbikes, hiking, snorkeling... putting all those things together in an adventure.

A moment you’ll never forget

So many to choose from, but one pow day in Japan stands out. My mate and I somehow scored this tree run all to ourselves for the entire day! It was snowing so hard that by the time we got back to the top, our lines had filled in and it was a never ending pow-day!

What you love most about freeride

I love that it's always different. No line and no feature are the same twice. Everyone sees the mountain differently and puts their own creative spin to their riding. I love that it's a solo sport but played as a team. Why I do it, is to ride with friends, push each others riding and get stoked together. You especially need a good team when out in the backcountry. If something were to go wrong, they are the one's that will save your life.

Something you learned from sports

I've learnt that the behind the scenes are just as important as the sport itself. The training that you do in the off season, the work you put in at the gym getting as strong as possible makes everything better on snow including landing those cliff drops. I kinda knew this was always the case, but was never a big fan of the gym until something clicked and the past few years I have put it into practice, and it's been a game changer.

Something you’d like to learn

Yes! Dirtbikes and Wheelies! I’ve done one once for a split second and it was epic. I have a road bike but once I’m in one place long enough, I’ll be getting a dirt bike and checking out some trails.

Something you’re often asked – and the answer

Is there snow in Australia? Yes! We have a few resorts to choose from, I usually ride my kangaroo there 😜

Your message to the outdoor community

Just have fun! That's what life is all about, finding what you love and enjoying it with the people you love.
