Geny. The Pioneer. Mountain of Angels 5/5
From his early days, Geny was not just a skier; he embodied freeride skiing in Engelberg, pioneering routes that now draw adventurers from across the globe. As a legend who grew up in Engelberg and has lived and skied there his whole life, Geny has seen himself how the resort, the mountains and the approach to skiing have changed. For him, it’s not about goals or performance. It’s all about being active in nature and fully immersing himself in the moment.
Mountain of Angels: a local freeride series
The fact that Engelberg means 'Mountain of Angels' can’t be a coincidence. The Swiss freeride mecca is renowned globally for its big lines, consistent snowfall, and legendary mountain culture. In a series of five local episodes, we’re telling the stories of our angels. Six freeride skiers share their lives with us, each with their own unique connection to the place, their individual experiences, levels of proficiency, and approaches.
About Geny
Geny has been skiing for 75 years. Even at an advanced age, he is not thinking of ending his skiing career, because for Geny, skiing is much more than just whizzing through the snow on two boards. It's about experiencing nature, which is so powerful that it will outlast us all. It's about enjoying what nature gives us for our short lifetime. As head of the avalanche task force in Engelberg, Geny is well aware of the dangers in the mountains. In his wine shop, he talks about his own experiences with the force of nature.
“I am nothing compared to nature.”
