Linda. The Outsider. Mountain of Angels 3/5
11/2024
Linda doesn't need to travel the world. Home is more than enough. Growing up in a remote cabin outside of the town, with a cable car as her mode of transport to civilization had a huge impact on how Linda sees the world. For her it is the exploration, the isolation, and the peace she finds when she tours. She seeks out the lesser-known areas to escape the crowds and to push her limits. She isn’t after the extreme, though she rides with the best of them. She is after the experience.
Mountain of Angels: a local freeride series
The fact that Engelberg means 'Mountain of Angels' can’t be a coincidence. The Swiss freeride mecca is renowned globally for its big lines, consistent snowfall, and legendary mountain culture. In a series of five local episodes, we’re telling the stories of our angels. Six freeride skiers share their lives with us, each with their own unique connection to the place, their individual experiences, levels of proficiency, and approaches.
About Linda
Like most of us, Linda Schmitter has stress, pressure, and worries in her job. But as soon as she sets off after work and takes the cable car for the last altitude meters home (a typical Swiss ‘Buiräbähnli’), she reaches a place where others go on holiday. Linda grew up here, on this remote farm above Engelberg. Today she lives back here, after missing the peace, quiet, and opportunities for mountain sports in the city. In the third episode of Mountain of Angels, Linda shows how beautiful home can be – especially when there are deep snow slopes as soon as you step outside your front door.
"The mountain. It’s in my blood.”
